Why do we love teddy bears?
Teddy bears are cute cuddly and innocent and they capture the imagination of young and old alike. When we are kids, we give our teddies names, feed them, bath them and care for them when they are ‘sick’ as is they are par of the family, as indeed they are In return they comfort us when we are sick or feel small and alone in the great grown up world. Of course, it is not always the expensive, new, boxed teddy bear that we immediately fall in love with, remember that scruffy, old, brown bear that you found in a neighbor’s garage sale and your mom wanted to through in the garbage, how you cried and cried for her to let you keep it. Is it still in a cupboard someplace? mine is! As adults we remember those old bears with affection and we often give teddy bears with flowers or balloons as present to mark a special occasion, or to tell someone we care about them. Old bears are often bought and sold at auction for thousands of dollars by collectors, and there a museums devoted to old bears all over the world.
However, new or old, bright and shining or old and scruffy, one thing that very teddy has in common, is that they all just want to be loved. |
