Tarot Cards

Tarot Cards

It is not really known where the first tarot cards originated. Most experts feel that Italy produced the first tarot cards between 1410 and 1430. Many of the early tarot cards had Italian images upon their surface, but other individuals think the cards had their initial origins in China or Egypt. Wherever tarot cards were first invented, their long lasting impression has made a permanent imprint into our larger society.

Fortunetellers used tarot cards for hundreds of years in order to predict the future, but it is questionable whether or not the initial designer of these cards had that intention in mind. Many people who use tarot decks make up their own minds about the images they see.

A tarot deck has 78 cards consisting of 22 major arcana cards (the 21 Trump cards and Fool card makes up this part of the deck) and 56 minor arcana (Pip and four face cards). The major arcana cards are designed to take individuals on a spiritual sojourn, but these cards have been criticized by others as religious debauchery and witchcraft.
The problem lies in people’s misunderstanding of the tarot deck. The Devil card for example is typically seen as directly relating to Satan himself. However, the card really represents entrapment and misguidance.
The Death card is seen to represent actual death, however this card is also mislabeled. The infamous death card merely symbolizes some kind of change that is going to take place in an individual’s life.
The minor arcana is the part of the tarot deck that closely mimics our modern day playing cards.
There are wands, cups, pentacles, and swords, which match our clubs, hearts, diamonds, and spades we are all so accustomed to playing with.
In addition, this part of the tarot deck also has men and women Pages, something not seen in modern day card decks.

Many people used to go to see a fortune teller if they wanted to have a tarot reading.
However, there is now a large market for tarot decks and many different versions of tarot cards that can be purchased for home use. Individuals who play this game seek divination or answers to what is currently going on in their lives or what may happen to them in the future.

Today Tarot cards and readins is as popular as ever both for entertainment, and to fulfill a deeper need for understanding of our increasing confusing modern world
